Opening the Energy Gates of Your Body Qigong is the foundation of all Taoist meditation and energy arts practices, specifically developing the qualities of the Water Element. Water is all about clearing and cleansing the body and its qi, which ultimately affects the mind.

As an introductory qi gong system, Energy Gates is constructed from bio-mechanical body alignments that, when properly implemented and maintained, produce a highly efficient posture and motion. This aids the descending flow of qi, known as "sinking qi", which forms the foundation of the Dissolving process. Together these neigong components form the core of Energy Gates, generating movements and adhering to the principles of taking the path of least resistance. There is no sense of force, pushing or straining as you move, allowing the body, mind and qi to release and let go. All of this goes towards manifesting a light, relaxed and sung (or "unbound") quality in both your body and your practice.

Energy Gates is generally learned over many years, initially with a focus on Standing, Cloud Hands, the First Swing and then the Spinal Stretch and remaining Two Swings, as appropriate to the specific practitioner.

The principles of the Water Element and all the fundamentals for training the more complex form of Energy Gates are introduced in the easier Taoist Neigong, four-exercise set.
